Spring 2022

While I consider Bibio’s “Silver Wilkinson” the quintessential “autumnal” record, in contrast his 2019 album ‘Ribbon’ is very evocative of Spring as the days draw longer and the birds start singing…

The bloke who had taken on the top half of my old plot has now also taken on the bottom half, and decided to chop down the yellow Plum tree while in Blossom… So I salvaged some of it to extend the ‘Folk Horror’ aesthetic into the Spring.

Inspired by Fiona around the corner, I decided to create a brick boundary to separate the bed at the front with the mulched mature fruit trees

Delightful Narcissus ‘Tête-à-tête’ I got on quite late growing amongst the replanted Sedum. Some Bluebells should follow. I’m not convinced the mulch will keep down the Couch Grass, but it is weakening some of it.

I have been informed this is a Philadelphus, possibly Philadelphus virginal (also known as ‘Mock Orange,’ so that’s something to look forwards to.

Blossom starting to come out on Pear tree (Pyrus communis)

Rhubarb also coming up nicely. Some of the older leaves seem a bit brown and dry. Wondering if the random conifer on the other side of the plot has been taking away moisture?

Polytunnel has unfortunately taken some damage during the recent storms, but at least have managed to make a start digging out a decent area to grow stuff. This took a couple of hours forking over and trying to remove as much couch grass, horsetail, and bindweed…

Potted up some (discounted) Primroses and Wallflowers by the Shed.

Hello Mr Hedgehog!

Managed to dig out another patch on the other side, so slowly starting to get on top of things.
Not managed to do a lot with the fruit bushes, yet..

Also unfortunately the ‘farmers,’ the Plot committee commissioned to cut back my nice but overgrown Beech hedge have been extremely brutal. Which I guess lets in more light, but has pretty much destroyed any seclusion I had. Though otherwise it’s definitely looking better than when I took it on!

(Same area last October…)

Top of the plot now from the road, hopefully the hedging will grow back, though people seem to be suggesting it will take 10 years…

And from the front, with tubs full of Pansies, Primroses, Wallflowers, Irises, Anenomes, Alliums and Tulips…

So quite a change from last year…
